Visit to the IDR Microgravity Simulation Platform

June 28, 2024

Today was a very special day for our team. We had the honour of visiting the Ignacio Da Riva Microgravity University Institute (IDR) at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Aeronautica y del Espacio of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). This centre is recognised worldwide for its excellence in research and development in microgravity conditions.

Our visit focused on the IDR’s impressive air bearing, an advanced test platform that simulates microgravity conditions with exceptional precision. This system will allow us to carry out tests on our Attitude Control System (ACS), a crucial component for the stability and orientation of our satellites.

What fascinated us most was the technology behind the air bearing. This device virtually eliminates all friction thanks to a film of pressurised air, allowing free and frictionless movement. The ability to replicate a microgravity environment on Earth is essential for our tests, and seeing this technology in action was truly inspiring.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the UPM School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering, and especially to the Ignacio Da Riva Microgravity University Institute (IDR), for putting these cutting-edge facilities at our disposal. Their support and collaboration are invaluable for the advancement of our research and development.

We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work in such an innovative environment and look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future. Thank you for such an enriching experience!
